Thinkpad X1 Carbon and Ubuntu 14.04 problems

Uwe Brauer-2

Hi

I just tested my new X1 Carbon with a Ubuntu 14.04 live CD. I
encountered the following problems.

    -  sound was not detected.

    -  wireless card neither

Here is the output of lspci (and also the one for my old X200s)

I have no idea where the problem is, but a general rule is that new
hardware doesn't mix well with ancient kernels.

Note that the Intel 8260 was launched in Q2'15 according to
https://ark.intel.com/products/86068/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-8260
That's a year after Ubuntu 14.04...  Might explain some of the problem?

Hi,

I use Debian unstable on my now 6 months old brand new 2017 X1:

A few lines from LSPCI:

Audio device: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio (rev 21)
Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 88)

And /almost everything/ just works fine here. I'm having some issues
with iwlfiwi, which does not like if I take the power cable out .. (I
need to debug that still)..

Yes, I think the same. I for one would try at least 16.04 LTS or
even better Mint 18.2.
@OP: Give it a try and report please.

Ok I tested Ubuntu 16 and there everything was found, however after the
installation and booting, GRUB was ignored, that is the X1 just started
Windows 10. I now recall that there is some new bootloader preinstalled
in the BIOS.

What shall I do in order to boot linux, which is installed?

Thanks
